Asking your guests for a song they’d like to request seems like a great idea, in reality it has the potential to sabotage your night.
What you end up with is a huge random list of music your DJ then has to buy and somehow shoehorn in to your night. Many might be good and easy to get in the problem there is your DJ will have no idea if the person that’s requested it is even in the room at the time of playing. On the other hand they can be super niche as some people like to take the opportunity to show how cool they are by requesting something right out of left field. It can often lead to a disruption in flow and forcing the DJ to go down paths they know won’t work that well and clearing the dancefloor.
It’s kind of like asking your guests for one ingredient they like, handing that list to your chef and asking them to make a meal with them all of them in there…
The best thing you can do for your wedding night party is hire a good, well reviewed DJ, make sure they take requests and ask if they can download music on the night which is quick and easy to do these days. That way guests can ask for music in real time which will make it much more relevant to how the night it going and they’ll know the person that wants it is actually in the room. Don’t condemn your DJ to a night of staring at a huge random list trying to mash something together that’ll work, because quite it often doesn’t and your night suffers.
